Immediately following the FBI’s announcement that it would not recommend criminal charges against Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump blasted the agency’s decision and continued to suggest that members of the Obama administration are colluding to protect the former secretary of state.
The system is rigged. General Petraeus got in trouble for far less. Very very unfair! As usual, bad judgment.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)
FBI director said Crooked Hillary compromised our national security. No charges. Wow! #RiggedSystem
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)
The presumptive Republican nominee is using Comey’s statement as yet another example of a broader conspiracy theory aimed against him and his presidential bid by the Democratic establishment. Over the weekend, Trump repeatedly pointed to former President Bill Clinton’s meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to support his contention:
Take a look at what happened w/ Bill Clinton. The system is totally rigged. Does anybody really believe that meeting was just a coincidence?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)
And now, of course, he can claim to have predicted the FBI’s decision months ago.
