Earlier today, Michael Sam received a really great phone call. He had become the first openly-gay player to be drafted in NFL history. Cameras were present as he and his boyfriend found out the news together. Watch them share a kiss and beautiful embrace as they learn of the historic decision by the St. Louis Rams:

It’s the UN’s second annual International Day of Happiness! (You may remember the first International Day of Happiness last year. It was the day after the last time anyone ever felt sadness ever.) Here are videos of 74-year-old civil rights icon and 14-term Congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.) dancing to Pharrell’s “Happy” in celebration:

At the end of the video, Rep. Lewis says, “Be happy, everybody.” The irony of course is that this video was shot vertically so by the time you get there you will not be “happy” so much as you will be “incredibly frustrated.”

Still, it’s the thought that counts. (Also, it’s an undeniably heart-warming video.)

Be happy!

Seriously, be happy. The UN is telling you to be happy. If you aren’t, the UN may “herd you into a human habitation zone.”

Just kidding. Only crazy people think that.

The same day it was revealed that the Army’s top sexual-assault prosecutor has been suspended after allegedly sexually assaulting someone at a sexual-assault conference, the US Senate rejected a bill that would have overhauled the way the Pentagon handles sexual-assault cases.

The beauty of great data visualization is that it renders wildly complex information into easily digestible pieces. What was once complicated still is, but now it’s much easier to understand. Music does that in its own way, taking individual notes that fit together via incredibly complex patterns and stringing them together to make a rich and nuanced flow that gets past the complexity. When the two come together, you get something like this.
