Donald Trump Is Right: The GOP Primary System Is Rigged

I hate to agree with Donald Trump about anything, but he’s got a point: the Republican primary process is really unfair. Just look at New York: Kasich and Cruz won 40 percent of the vote but only 4 percent of the delegates. It’s an outrage.

And it’s been that way all along. In the early contests, Trump’s opponents won 68 percent of the vote but only 38 percent of the delegates. On Super Tuesday they won 66 percent of the vote but only 57 percent of the delegates. In early March they eked out a fair result: 63 percent of the vote and 66 percent of the delegates. But on Super Tuesday II it was back to business as usual: they crushed Trump with 60 percent of the vote but won only 38 percent of the delegates.

I’m glad Trump is helping shine a media spotlight on this gross inequity—and he deserves special credit since he’s the one benefiting from it. It’s a pretty selfless act. Maybe someone will finally start paying attention to the way the Republican establishment is so obviously in the bag for Trump.

John Oliver Slams Donald Trump and GOP Rivals for Reducing Election to Dick-Measuring Contest

Judging by Donald Trump’s sweeping victories on Super Tuesday, Republican voters have decidedly ignored John Oliver’s plea to #MakeDonaldDrumpfagain and are on track to nominate the “serial liar” for president—at least for the time being.

But that doesn’t mean the “Last Week Tonight” host is done skewering Trump or his GOP rivals, especially after last week’s vulgar debate in Detroit, in which the real estate magnate boasted about the size of his penis on national television.

“That’s right, Donald Trump just talked about his dick during a presidential debate,” Oliver said. “A dick which I presume looks like a Cheeto with the cheese dust rubbed off.”

He then played audio excerpts of Trump’s ex-wife’s equally cringe-worthy romance novel, read by Morgan Fairchild.

As Oliver declared last night, welcome to “Clowntown Fuck-The-World Shitshow 2016.”

Why is Donald Trump like climate change? Watch Trevor Noah explain

Why is Donald Trump like climate change? Watch Trevor Noah explain

There’s a new inconvenient truth at hand for the Republican Party, and it goes by the name Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah compared Trump’s Super Tuesday success to something else that GOP candidates love to deny — climate change. It’s a connection that William Saletan made on Slate a week ago, and a delightful one at that.

Marco Rubio, Noah explains, “would rather question the numbers” than admit Trump is crushing him. Then there’s Ted Cruz, who “willfully misinterprets” the Super Tuesday results to mean something a little rosier.

The analogy doesn’t stop there. Noah continues:

Whether you believe in it or not, political climate change is happening, just like it is in nature. And we know this because we see it. You know, in nature, you see birds migrating earlier. Insects showing up in areas they’ve never been. Rats forced to hunt pizza in the wild. And it’s not different in the Republican Party, where we’re seeing political animals adapting to survive.

This is followed by a video of Chris Christie (once a “lone wolf,” now Trump’s “trained lapdog”) endorsing America’s favorite churlish chump with a combover.

Remember the days when the Donald’s bid to ascend to the presidency seemed like far-fetched tomfoolery? Well, we finally have something in common with you, Rubio and Cruz: We’re in denial, too. Because with Trump at the presidential bully pulpit, the future would look very scary, indeed.

Donald Trump Wins Nevada Caucuses

Mother Jones

Coming off big wins in New Hampshire and South Carolina, Donald Trump secured his position as the clear front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday night with another resounding victory in the Nevada caucuses.

The major networks called the race for Trump shortly after the caucuses concluded. Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Ted Cruz of Texas were locked in a battle for second place, with Ohio Gov. John Kasich and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson trailing.

Trump, who has broken all the usual campaign rules with brash promises that range from building a wall along the Mexican border to banning Muslims from entering the country, has now won the last three caucuses or primaries. He enters the Super Tuesday contests on March 1 with a commanding lead in the delegate count.
