Fuels America’s fight to protect consumer choice and the environment

Today we are proud to announce the new FuelsAmerica.org.

Every day it’s more obvious that renewable fuel and the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) are a critical part of energy investment in the United States, creating new jobs and helping us break our addiction to oil.

But despite its record of success, renewable fuel is still under attack.

Oil companies are spending millions to roll back established industry standards that expand the use of renewable fuel – the one energy policy proven to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and provide real benefits to Americans.

With the re-launch of FuelsAmerica.org, we will be at the forefront of calling out the lies the oil industry has been spreading. We will rally together to create a movement in support of renewable fuel.

To find out more about this movement, you can check out some new site features to get you started:

Fuels America Map: Find and read stories by people and organizations from around the country, showing how much renewable fuel has made a difference in their lives.

The Facts: Want to learn the truth about oil companies? Visit The Facts section to find out exactly how the oil industry is hurting our economy, environment, and livelihoods.

Did you know that the ethanol industry created 87,000 jobs last year? Or that American families saved about $1,200 dollars on gas in recent years because of ethanol? The Renewable Fuels Association has all of the facts about ethanol in a new video out today:

These are some of our favorite ethanol facts:

Today, ethanol makes up 10% of the U.S. gasoline supply. That’s up from less than 1% just 20 years ago.
Oil imports from OPEC are down 22% since the Renewable Fuel Standard was expanded in 2007.
Ethanol reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 40-50% when compared directly to gasoline.

If you’d like to learn more, RFA’s website has the full list of 40 ethanol facts, as well as sources for each.

Statement on Recent Anti-RFS Legislation

Statement on Recent Anti-RFS Legislation

Posted 7 February 2013 in

National

The following is a statement from the Fuels America coalition on the introduction of anti-RFS legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives:

The bill introduced today from Reps. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) and Jim Matheson (D-Utah) is short-sighted and plays into the hands of oil companies looking to undermine the renewable fuel industry and deny Americans choice at the gas pump.

This bill guarantees that there would never be an incentive to produce any more cellulosic renewable fuel than was made last year, hardly a recipe for spurring innovation and investment.

What is really costing the American public is oil’s control over our fuel supply. That control creates huge profits for the industry, more than $118 billion in 2012 alone, with current gas prices the highest ever for early February.

Faced with that fact, the real question is whether our country wants alternatives to oil, or not. This bill, and others like it, only ensure one thing: that our economy will continue to be held hostage by the global price of oil by preventing renewable fuel from getting to market.
